Coming Attractions

All work and no play ... means I'm writing a lot!

During the next few months, I've got some exciting stuff planned. Starting this weekend, I will be contributing three columns to the blog Wonders in the Dark, which is counting down its 70 top musicals. While I can't reveal what I'm writing, I'll be posting there on Sunday, Aug. 28; Tuesday, Sept. 20; and Monday, Oct. 17. I will post a link to the article on my blog, and I'll try to answer comments there. I'm looking forward to it!

The Classic Movie Blog Association will hold its Guilty Pleasures blogathon on Sept. 18 to 20. This one's no secret -- I'll be reviewing "What's Up, Doc?" So come by and check that out.

I am going to debut a new feature called "Take Two," in which two bloggers have a conversation about a single topic. I have been working with The Lady Eve, and we are putting the finishing touches on our entry. Look for this most likely in September.

Carole & Co. is sponsoring its first ever "Carole-tennial(+3)" blogathon on Oct. 6 to 9 to commemorate the 103rd anniversary of Carole Lombard's death. I really want to participate but have not chosen a subject yet. With luck I will do so soon.

I hope to continue my look at Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers films as well as Humphrey Bogart's early career. I'll do my annual year-end countdown in December.

Plus I have film classes beginning on the Production Code at Waubonsee and the Silent Screen Comedians at College of DuPage.

All told, I'm busy! So stay tuned ... it should be a fun fall!

  5. Thank you all for your comments. I am looking forward to all of this. I'm very excited about the Take Two with The Lady Eve. If people like it, the goal is to do one a month or one every other month. So let me know if you're interested once you see the first one. I've already asked a few people -- including Kevin -- about doing one together.

  6. Great things to come, CFB. I'm doing Guilty Pleasures, too, and I can't wait. Ever see Reefer Madness and Sex Madness? Lots of us have seen Reefer, but not many have seen Sex. (Hmm...didn't mean that quite the way it sounded! LOL!) I'll look forward to the links for your new stuff. I have you on my blogroll, so if you do that I'll be able to follow you!

P.S. LOVE that guy at the typewriter!

  8. Sounds like Autumn will be an exciting time at Classicfilmboy's Movie Paradise! I'm looking forward to your upcoming blogs and columns. However, if I may say so, I'm a little surprised that you consider WHAT'S UP, DOC? to be a Guilty Pleasure, since that term usually describes a poor film that's fun to watch in spite of itself, and my hubby and I just adore WHAT'S UP, DOC? as a latter-day salute to screwball comedy. In any case, I know whatever you write about it will be well worth reading! :-)

  9. Hi Becky, glad you like the guy at a typewriter. I thought he was great, too :)

Hey Rick: Looking forward to Take 2 as well. You and I need to do one!

Hi Dorian: Interesting interpretation of what a guilty pleasure is. Frankly, in writing this reply, I was having a hard time defining what I consider a guilty pleasure. I told Rick this was a hard one for me because I'm not much of a bad movie lover. Hmmmm ... perhaps I should change my selection ...
