My new house

Hi Everyone,

I'd like to share some photos of my new house. Feel free to read my last post if you haven't already to get the background.

The first shows the great room when we bought it -- yes, this is how we bought it.

It may not look like much, but we saw the potential immediately.

Now, here is the same room on Thanksgiving -- we moved in the weekend before:

And here's the same room looking the opposite direction:

Still can't believe it's ours. Very proud of it!

  1. Beautiful, Brian! I'm a fan of wide-open floor plans and lots of light and hardwood floors and love what you've done. Like very much that the fireplace is surrounded by windows.

    1. Hi Patty, Thank you. It's still hard to believe it's ours. Our former house (and the one before that) were beautiful homes but very tradition. Today we had our annual holiday open house, and everyone talked about how different this is from the other houses. It's a great house for entertaining, which is what we like to do. If you ever find yourself in the Chicago suburbs, let me know and I'll give you a tour!

  2. A truly stunning result for all your hard work and perseverance, and a lovely room in which to have a good meal or watch a classic film. The windows, oh those windows, make me want to begin the search for my mid-century gem. I wish you good memories in your new home for many years to come. Will you use the fireplace for your first Christmas here?

    1. Thank you. Those windows were a selling point. We had our annual holiday open house today, and what a great space for entertaining. Even though it was 50 today, we had the fireplace going. Although you can't see it in the photo, we did have it going on Thanksgiving. And yes, for Christmas as well! It's a gas fireplace so very easy to use. Oddly enough, in our other homes, we had gas fireplaces but rarely used them. We've been here three weeks and we've used it five or six times already.

  3. Incredibly cool, CFB! Was it designed by Gary Cooper in his FOUNTAINHEAD phase or Kirk Douglas in STRANGERS WHEN WE MEET?

  4. Looks fab. So when are you getting the fish sculpture that spouts water? Great space and lighting.

    1. Thank you. Hmmm ... I'll have to see if there's a place in the backyard for the fish sculpture. And wading pool!
